On May 25 and 26, 2022, students and members of the team from the Professional High School of Stonemasonry in the village of Kunino visited the town of Devin. The occasion for the visit was the opportunity to meet with children from the Municipality of Devin, present the stonemasonry craft, and discuss professional development opportunities after completing their education at the school. Another significant occasion was the installation of a two-ton stone wolf, which is the newest attraction at the highest panoramic viewing platform on the Balkan Peninsula—”Valchi Kamak,” near the village of Gyovren. The figure was crafted at the Professional High School of Stonemasonry in Kunino by Valeriy Ganchev and Darin Ganchev, both alumni and teachers at the high school. The work is based on a model by the sculptor Ivan Totev from Plovdiv.
“Valchi Kamak” is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Western Rhodopes. It is located at 1,650 m above sea level and offers visitors the feeling of being at the center of the world. From there, one can observe the Rhodopes in neighboring Greece, the Pirin Mountains, Rila, Golyam and Malak Persenk, Perelik, and more.
We would like to thank the Mayor of Devin, Mr. Zdravko Ivanov, for the warm welcome and hospitality.
