Assistance of 300 BGN for all eighth-grade students during the new 2021/2022 school year
All families whose children are enrolled in the eighth grade for the first time are entitled to a one-time assistance payment of 300 BGN to cover part of the expenses at the beginning of the new 2021/2022 school year. The funds are granted regardless of income, provided that the children reside permanently in the country and are not placed in out-of-home care. The assistance is also provided for children placed with relatives or foster families, as well as to a guardian/trustee raising such a child.
Financial support is granted after submitting an application-declaration to the Social Assistance Directorate (SAD) at the place of residence. The application is submitted after the child’s enrollment in the eighth grade, but no later than October 15, 2021. An exception is made for cases where, due to health reasons established by a protocol of a medical consultative commission, the child cannot start school, but for no more than 6 months from the start of the school year.

The assistance is paid in two installments. The first half (150 BGN) is paid after the order for its granting enters into force, and the second half (150 BGN) is paid at the beginning of the second school term, but only if the child continues to attend school.
The granted one-time assistance is subject to refund if the child does not start school, unless this is impossible due to their state of health. The funds are recovered in the event that the student does not continue their education during the second school term until the completion of the eighth grade, unless this is impossible due to their state of health, or if they have been absent for more than 5 school hours within one month without valid reasons.
