“The Stonemasonry School” is a documentary film about the only Professional High School of Stone Processing on the Balkan Peninsula, located in the village of Kunino, Roman Municipality. The film follows one school year, capturing its spirit, traditions, and daily life, while exploring the creative endeavors of the students, the dedication of the teachers and masters, and the numerous personal stories intertwined with the craft. Featured figures include Master Radoy Radoychovski—one of Bulgaria’s most prominent stonemasons—the renowned former director Dimitar Yotov, the current director Hristo Dimitrov, young teachers and active sculptors and craftsmen Darin Ganchev, Valeriy Ganchev, and Petar Mihaylov, as well as nearly all the students at the school.

The film was created by young artists Silvia Cherneva (director) and Aleksandar Benev (cinematographer) and captures their encounters, impressions, and questions for the protagonists. It was produced with the financial support of the European Union and co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development in implementation of project BG06RDNP001-19.526 – Documentary film “Stonemasonry Stories” with the beneficiary Association “Orthodox Temple Saint Nicholas – Kunino” under Sub-measure 19.2 “Implementation of operations within community-led local development strategies” of Measure 19 “Community-led local development” for beneficiaries and contracting authorities under the ZUSESIF.
